Biographical:
I am Associate Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Political Science and Resident Fellow in the Center in Political Economy. I specialize in international political economy, globalization, the politics of international finance, and growth and development. I am the author of numerous books and articles. I am currently working on two research projects. One project examines domestic financial arrangements as credible commitments and necessary conditions for hegemonic leadership in the global economy. In this project I am examining three historical periods of global economic leadership: the Dutch in the 1600s, the British in the 1800s, and the United States in the 1900s. The other project compares globalization in the late 1800s and late 1900s and its relationship to the modern social welfare state.
