Join or Die - Film Screening and Reflection Session
In partnership with the Gephardt Institute for Civic and Community Engagement - and in celebration of Civic Action Week - the Washington University Department of Sociology will be hosting a free screening of Join or Die. Renowned sociologist Dr. Robert (Bob) Putnam leads this documentary-style investigation into the decades'-long decline of community, connection, and civic engagement in the United States. Drawing from influential scholars and political figures - as well as everyday community organizations - the film inquires as to the mechanisms and importance of democracy, how civic engagement becomes central to larger projects of democracy, and how everyday people can make a difference through their own lives and communities. Post-film, SOC department representatives will facilitate short debriefs and reflection activities for attendees.
This event is open to the broader WashU community and is free to attend.
Room capacity is limited to 200 partipants.
