WashU Political Science Welcomes New Faculty for Spring 2025

The Political Science department is thrilled to welcome two new faculty members, Hannah Simpson and Carlo Horz, as assistant professors beginning in the Spring 2025 term. They are a part of a successful round of recruitment that will see multiple faculty members joining the department in 2025. Prior to WashU, Simpson and Horz were assistant professors at Texas A&M University. Both received their PhDs from NYU, with Simpson receiving a JD from Harvard.

For their first term as WashU faculty, Horz will be teaching the graduate level course, POLSCI 506 - Theories of Individual and Collective Choice II, and Simpson will be teaching POLSCI 332 - Topics in Politics: Game Theory. Below are their short biographies. The department would like to extend a warm welcome to Simpson and Horz, and we are excited to have them on the team.

Hannah Simpson studies the political economy of legal institutions. Prior to joining WashU, she was an assistant professor at Texas A&M University. She holds a Ph.D. from NYU, a J.D. from Harvard Law School, and a B.A. from Carleton College.

Carlo Horz analyzes the politics of authoritarian regimes, mostly using game-theoretic models. Before joining Washington University in St. Louis, he was an Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University. He obtained a PhD in Politics from the Department of Politics at New York University.
