This class is designed to introduce undergraduates at the junior and senior level to the history and politics of the European Union (EU) and European integration. In the first part of the class, students will learn about the interplay of theory and practice in the history of European integration. In the second part, we study the institutions and decision-making processes with reference to the theoretical concepts developed earlier in the course. From there we will examine some of the key EU policies and their implementation in the third part of the course. In the final two sections of the course, we will look at constitutional politics, and some of the more recent policies and developments.
