POLITICAL SCIENCE 3171

How does gender affect the onset, conclusion and experience of conflict? In what ways does conflict itself depend on gender? This course studies the complex and recursive relationship between conflict and gender. The class introduces students to the major debates in this field, the state of knowledge, and how to view social science questions through a gendered lens. This course also places a heavy focus on the research process. Assuming zero prior knowledge of research, the course walks students through each phase of social scientific research. The course culminates in a research design proposal of the student's creation that investigates a component of gender and conflict's relationship.
