    Dan Butler studies American Politics. He focuses on questions related to representation and the behavior of elites and he primarily teaches courses in American politics.

    Butler's research uses experiments to study issues of representation.  This research has appeared in the American Political Science Review, American Journal of Political Science, the Journal of PoliticsPolitical Analysis, the Quarterly Journal of Political ScienceLegislative Studies Quarterly, and other journals.  He is the author of the book Representing the Advantaged: How Politicians Reinforce Inequality (Cambridge University Press) and Rejecting Compromise: Legislators' Fear of Primary Voters with Sarah E. Anderson and Laurel Harbridge-Yong (Cambridge University Press).
